THE TIME: 
The thing that is measured as seconds, minutes, hours, days, years, etc.
: a particular minute or hour shown by a clock
: the time in a particular area or part of the world
  • Time is the ongoing sequence of events taking place. The past, present and future.

  • We measure time using seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years.

  • Clocks measure time.

                                 

                                   Showing the Time

There are two main ways to show the time: "24 Hour Clock" or "AM/PM":
24 Hour Clock: the time is shown as how many hours and minutes since midnight.
AM (Ante meridiem)/PM ( Post meridiem) (or "12 Hour Clock"): the day is split into:
  • the 12 Hours running from Midnight to Noon (the AM hours), and
  • the other 12 Hours running from Noon to Midnight (the PM hours).
In other words:

  • From the mid night (12:01 Minute) until  fifty nine past eleven : (11:59) A.M. you are going to say: 
In the morning.

Example: It`s one O'clock in the morning ( In spite of, It is still  dark or night).

  • Now,from one past twelve ( 12:01 ) P.M. until six O'clock P.M. you are going to say:
In the afternoon.

Example: It's a quater past three in the afternoon!          (3:15)

  • From one past six (6:01) P.m until ten O'clock (10:00) P.M. , you are going to say:
In the evening.

Example: It's ten to nine in the evening.        (8:50)

  • and when the clock goes from one past ten (10:01) P.M. to mid night (12:00) you are going to say:
In the night.

Example: It's twenty to eleven in the night.  (10:40)


                 There are different ways to give the hour in English:
  • First: When somebody asks you for the hour or time, Probably, She or he is going to use these formal or informal  questions: 
  • What time is it?
  • Could you give the hour?, please!
  • Tell me the hour,please!
  • Can you give me the hour?, please!
  • Excuse me, can you tell me the time? ,please!
  • If the big hand of the clock is over the number twelve and the little one is over the number: one.two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven and even the number twelve.
  •  You will answer:
  • Yes, sure It is twelve O'clock  or It is nine O'clock depending on the position where the little hand is. 
  • look at the picture:
It's twelve O'clock / or It's noon  or It's midnight.
       
It's nine Oclock sharp   in the morning / in the evening
It's thre O'clock sharp in the morning / in the afternoon.
